Remember the excitement you felt as a child, as you anticipated Christmas and all of the presents that you would receive? What would Santa bring you? Would you get that big-ticket item that you had been asking for all year? What crazy gift would Aunt Margaret make you open in front of everyone this year? It is the same feeling of giddiness and excitement that I start to feel around December, knowing that the San Antonio Cocktail Conference is just around the corner. I look forward to this event more than any other event in town, and this year’s fourth annual conference, which took place from Thursday, January 15th through Sunday, January 18th, did not disappoint.
This wonderful event continues to grow in scale and importance each year, and this year, the magic number was four. With four days and nights of cocktail parties, educational seminars and amazing events, The Fourth Annual San Antonio Cocktail Conference benefited four different children’s charities this year. The Children’s Shelter, ChildSafe, HeartGift San Antonio and Transplants for Children were the recipients of charitable donations made possible by the thirsty revelers at this year’s conference. “At the heart of what we do is the charitable component,” says Cathy Siegel, Executive Director of Houston Street Charities. Cathy, along with conference founder Chef Mark Bohanan, and the tireless crew of The CE Group, continued to smile through the cocktail chaos all weekend long as they kept up with guests, brand representatives, chefs and the creative mixologists that served close to 7,000 conference attendees.
The weekend started early with pre-conference dinners on Wednesday night, but really kicked off the following night at the Majestic Theatre for the Opening Night Gala. I know that I’ll never grace the stage of this beautiful theatre, or any theatre for that matter, as a performer, but on this night, I felt like I was a part of a grand production. Imagine the stage at The Majestic extending out over the seats of the theatre, with over a thousand people drinking, eating, dancing and basically just having the time of their lives. That was the scene we confronted when we walked in, ready to try anything the bartenders had in store for us.
