There are a few foods that, when we encounter them, have the ability to make us feel like kids again. Really great cupcakes are among those foods. Regardless of the guilt we might feel once we’ve consumed one, most of us will savor each and every bite of a truly delicious cupcake, reminiscing about childhood birthday parties or family picnics. Cupcake bakeries have been a very hot trend on the culinary scene in the past few years, and they continue to thrive as more bakeries and cupcake trucks come up with interesting and off the wall flavors to satisfy our sweet tooth. Cupcakes help us recall the idyllic days before mortgages and deadlines, and for a few moments, everything is right in the world.
Several bakery cafés have burst onto the scene in San Antonio recently, and one of the most popular sweet shops is Bird Bakery. Located on Broadway in Alamo Heights, just north of Austin Highway, Bird Bakery is owned by Elizabeth Chambers, wife to “The Lone Ranger” star Armie Hammer.
