She doesn’t wear a cape or a mask, but many hail Joci Straus as the heroine of a great save for San Antonio: the resurrection of the Majestic and Charline McCombs Empire Theaters.
Back in the late ’80s, when the San Antonio Symphony had moved out of the then-declining Municipal Auditorium and needed a new home, city leaders called on renowned organizer Straus to lead an effort to restore the Majestic as a new home for the symphony, and part of the seemingly endless series of projects to bring back downtown, particularly the Houston Street corridor.
